untitled - Santa Rocket ready for take off from Mt. Moriah Cemetery flagpole - 12/1959
(1) 3.5 x 5.0" black and white print. The image captures a wood and paper mache rocket painted red and yellow on a pulley system. Built by Elmer Pontius and Bud Irish, the rocket was launched from the Mount Moriah Cemetery flag pole and ended at the top of the US Federal Building in 1959 and 1960. The santa rocket was a Deadwood Chamber of Commerce promotional attraction.

In the background is a two storied building with a neon sign. The sign has a large neon Leghorn White chicken. Above and below the chicken reads "LOUIE'S" and "HUT SOUTHERN FRIED". This was the location of the 2001 Deadwood Chinatown archaeological investigation.
