(1) 2.5 x 7.0" black and white print capturing the BPOE Elk carnival along Main Street and near the corner of Wall Street. From left to right once can see the street sign for the Combination Theater (627 Main Street); a portion of the Adams Brothers Block (629 Main Street); the front of the Bullock Hotel and Bullock Hotel Annex (633-637 Main Street). Interesting to note, bunting, American flags and Elks flags are mounted on the second floor of the buildings. A temporary bandstand is elevated above Wall Street with a group of musicians sitting and standing on the platform. Street level there is a canvas tent with lettering that reads "PROF. ...OWENS" MUSICAL..." A freight wagon pulled by a team of horses is parked in the front of the Bullock Hotel. Painted on the buckboard "... EXPRESS". The front windows of the Bullock Hotel read "Bullock Buffet" and "Totem Club". Several Elks flags are mounted to the front of the Bullock Annex building. The image was taken during the BPOE Elk Carnival on July 29-August 2, 1902. Upon close inspection, Main Street has not been paved (post 1907). There is a string of electric lights going across the street. A large canvas tent is located on the right side of City Hall. |
