(1) stereoview. Image records prospectors excavating for placer gold deposits in Deadwood Gulch. Image focuses on man with shovel in a trench/prospect hole shoveling ground into wheelbarrow. Behind him stands a man posing with a pick ax. Behind him are several other men posing for the photograph. A sluice box runs parallel to the open trench/cut. Also in the image appears to be a placer mine shaft collar with a wooden hoist (right side of image). In the background are several wood structures with several men posing. The image was recorded as a Morrow image by the previous owner, however, there are no advertisements or information on the photographer. On the reverse side of the image is a paper label glued with a listing of additional images. This image appears to be part of the series entitled "Black Hills". |
