(1) 3.5 x 5.5" photographic postcard capturing James Butler "Wild Bill" Hickok and Martha "Calamity Jane" Canary's graves in Section 1 Lots 70 and 71. The 1903 Alvin Smith sandstone sculpture is Hickok's grave and wood and chicken wire cage encloses his grave. Canary's grave contains concrete urn and footstone marker at the base.In background are seven wood headboards. The urns from Joseph Dufran plot are visible in photograph. On reverse, the postcard is postmarked September 15, 1920 with one cent stamp. Correspondence written in blue ink reads "9/15/20 Weather warm and fine but have frost almost every night. I am not sure when i will be home yet." |
