(1) 15.5 x 9 7/8" 2 pg hand written letter in black ink on single folio sheet originally folded in half then thirds. Letter written to Illinois man named "William". Confirms Hickok's visit to Homer [Troy Grove], Illinois in spring of 1862. Information taken from Greg Martin Auctions June 16, 2003 catalog: "James Butler is back in Missouri as scout and wagon driver for the Union Army after a visit home to Homer [Troy Grove], Illinois. He writes of accompanying an 80 wagon supply train to Batesville, Arkansas when 30 miles into the journey he is called back and ordered to accompany another wagon train of supplies destined for Springfield, Missouri.
